Our Mission

We are dedicated to empowering and liberating Black women by promoting holistic healing that supports mental health and well-being.

Our Vision

We aspire to create a community of Black women who are first-generation cycle breakers to connect, grow, and thrive.

Our Values

  • Authenticity

  • Empowerment

  • Community

  • Learning

The organization's journey began in 2015 with a passion project and event known as the Black & Beautiful Women's Brunch, established in response to the tragic murder of Sandra Brown. This event catalyzed our commitment to creating safe spaces for female-identifying black women where they can learn about their rights, process their emotions, and access community and mental health resources. By the end of 2018, BBWB touched over 200 women, across six cities, four states, and two countries because our attendees desired a collective international network. Due to the growing success of BBWB and the expressed need to create similar spaces for women, the BBWB organizers co-founded  Coco Coalition.

Over the past eight years, we have not only acknowledged the unique experiences of female-identifying Black women but also prioritized elevating the often invisible experiences within this population. Embracing the rich diversity within the Black community, we welcome each Black woman's distinct narrative into the Coco family. We currently offer in-person resources in the San Francisco Bay Area and virtually.

  • To date, we have hosted 38 events for Black women covering 8 cities representing 5 states and 3 countries.

  • Since 2020, Coco Coalition has granted 13 scholarship awards to women studying mental health, civic engagement, or the arts in the U.S.

  • As part of their Coco Cares initiative, the organization has provided over 100 girls in Ghana with 400 packs of pads and 400 pairs of underwear to combat period poverty.

  • Various community events and initiatives have been launched, including the "Black Women in Conversation" series and the annual Black Mothers Matter event.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our invaluable partners who stand alongside us in our commitment to prioritize the wellness of Black women. Their unwavering support and collaborative spirit empower us to create meaningful change, fostering a community where every woman's well-being is nurtured, celebrated, and uplifted. Together, we are forging a path toward holistic health and empowerment for Black women everywhere.
